In the late season, when the leaves have all fallen, the silhouette of the trees stand firm. From a distance the collage of branches and trunks seem connected in every way. If you look closer you will see that while they share the same roots, each branch has its own path.
Under just the right circumstances, the winds will blow and two branches will touch… briefly occupying the same space at the same moment… Regardless of whether it is winds of time or winds of change, the branches will return to their own path… they always do.
Such is the family tree.
For a brief time this fall, I shared the same path at the same moment with my sister. We have since gone back to our own paths; but if you look closely at my branch, you will see a small worn spot in the protective bark that insulates me from the world. It is at this point that I was able to see life through the eyes of another… and in doing so; I gained a better understanding of my purpose and the value of my roots.
