Scrap Booking August 26th, 2007

Geoff

Written August 26, 2007 – It’s Sunday night and I’m trying to find some clever useful words to send to my sister Carrie as she kicks off the start of her 6 week leave of absence from work.  Somehow “today is Day 1 of the rest of your life” seems a bit heavy (true, but heavy), so I reach back to the Cheaha trip of 2004 and recall that Carrie (like me) is a visual person.  Perfect.  I’ll send her a picture to represent today.

How do you represent “today” with a picture?

Well, I chose the picture below.  This picture was taken from directly behind the barn on my property.  You are probably wondering where that pond came from?  Well, the pond doesn’t exist…yet… but that’s what makes this picture an excellent visual for describing “today”.

“Today” should be part reality, part vision.  Most of us allow our days to become complete reality, and we lose sight of the infinite possibility that comes with tomorrow.  We forget that a single decision made today can drastically alter the landscape of tomorrow.  We forget that we are shaping our life and those around us.

Again, being visual, I really enjoy a good scrap book.  I haven’t personally done much scrap booking, but I’m guessing painting your reality and your vision could be much like building a new page in the scrapbook.  When you flip the page and find a blank, you don’t build the same page again do you?  No.  Although the style may be similar, I’m guessing you take a few moments to let the vision develop and then you respond with action.

This is the point of morning prayer.  To give thanks for where you have been, to appreciate where you are, and to seek guidance in where you are going…

Carrie, I wish I had clever useful words for you…I don’t.  However, I do believe you will find them if you ask for them.  As for today, just open the scrap book to an empty page and begin the process…

I love you.

Geoff
